| North of Milna,
where the coastal road cuts inland through the hills, you
will find the beautiful villages of Bobovisca and Lozisca.
Founded in the hills above the sea many hundreds of years
ago they are excellent examples of defensive towns strategically
positioned to allow the islanders refuge from pirate invasions
on the coast below.
By the end of the eighteenth century this threat had begun
to wane and a small settlement was able to form on the shoreline
below. The village of Bobovisca na Moru, as it came to be
known, was built around two deep bays to provide shelter for
the fishermen in the local area. In recent years these natural
attributes, together with its beautiful architecture, have
made it very popular with sailors and it provides a haven
for yachts in the summer.
For those staying in the village there are various cafes in
which to while away the afternoon. There is also a small path
that winds through the centre and out along the sides of the
bay. On this path you will find many places to stop off and
swim in complete solitude. In the evening this is the place
to come for magnificent sunsets over the island of Solta.
